After his recent released study on the discrimination based on sexual orientation in Europe, the European Commission (EC) published for the first time a report, which looks into the legal situation of trans and intersex people in the European Union. The report ‘Discrimination against trans and intersex people on the grounds of sex, gender identity and gender expression‘ (108 p.) set his focus inter alia on the legal analysis of gender identity and gender expression based discrimination in the region and gives an future perspective on gender identity and gender expression based discrimination in EU law. Further more the EC report offers an excellent overview of the current protection of trans and intersex people under international and EU law.
According to the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBT Rights the report was part of the EU Strategy for equality between women and men 2010-2015.
