Sexual minorities, that is people belonging to the group of LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and intersex) are legally criminalized and persecuted in the majority of African countries – even, when the equality on the basis of sexual orientation is legally recognized.

The discussion looks into the causes of the discrimination of sexual minorities and uses case studies to examine how local and international activists fight for the rights of sexual minorities. Rita Schäfer presents societal causes for homophobia at the example of Uganda. Eva Range talks about an anti-hate crime campaign in the Republic of South Africa.

The discussion will be held in German
