Today the UN Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva released the first ever report on LGBTI Human Rights Issues. The report Discriminatory laws and practices and acts of violence against individuals based on their sexual orientation and gender identity shows ” […]how around the world people are killed or endure hate-motivated violence, torture, detention, criminalization and discrimination in jobs, health care and education because of their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. ” (UN News Center – UN issues first report on human rights of gay and lesbian people). Within the UN document the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights calls all countries to decriminalize homosexuality and to abolish the death penalty for consensual sexual relations between adults of the same sex. Navi Pillay advise all UN member states to investigate all killings or other Human Rights violations because of actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
